As schools across North Texas reopen for the fall semester, teachers and students alike are looking ahead to another year of learning and fun. But in many classrooms, a lack of supplies puts a limit on the types of activities and creativity students can enjoy.
Ninety-four percent of teachers spend their own money—an average of nearly $500 a year—to stock their classrooms with the resources they need to successfully teach students, according to the National Education Association.
At United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, we know that education, along with income and health, is one of the building blocks of opportunity. When teachers have the supplies they need, students are more likely to feel engaged and excited by school, which helps put them on a path to success.
That’s why we’re hosting a Stock the School drive that delivers the tools and support local students and teachers need to succeed. Together, we can ensure teachers and students right here in our community feel excited and prepared for the new school year.
During last year’s Stock the School drive, more than 200 North Texans raised their hands to support students and teachers. Will you help us reach 250 volunteers this year? Click below to sign up.
